"The Break To The Beat...

...the version excursion."

I thought I would use my first entry to pay tribute to Westwood and all the other DJ's out there who got me in to collecting "The Breaks". Having spent countless hours diggin' in record shops in London (big up Soul Brother Records' Fabian, Malcolm & Laurence!), and in pretty much every city I have ever visited, I have amassed an impressive collection of original material as sampled by many a Hip Hop producer, spawning a new generation of music.

This will be a regular feature kicking off with UK MC, Sincere, who's forthcoming single "Once Upon A Time" samples a couple of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings tracks from their 2005 sophomore LP "Naturally". Sampling new funk tracks is becoming a standard as producers search for those killer samples to recycle and reinvent as Jay-Z showed recently on "Roc Boys"

The drums at the beginning of the track are from "How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?" (Listen), and the horns are from "This Land Is Your Land" (Listen)

Sincere's "Once Upon A Time" (featuring Natty) is released on YNR Records on 21st May - make sure you go out and buy a copy, support UK artists and keep vinyl alive!
